AMS Original - Ethical aspects of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures in gynecology

As the demand for female genital cosmetic procedures rises, Dr Ivan Fistonic discusses the ethical aspects for intimate treatments. He explains what is trend and what is need for treatment, and how these classifications changed recently as aesthetic procedures are perceived in some cases as a necessary step to promote sexual and mental health.
He explains why it is inappropriate to use the term "veginal rejuvenation" and why a professional that performs these treatments should go for "minimally/non-invasive reconstructive procedures" or "genital restoration". He also shares his concerns for doctors performing gynaecological procedures without scientific evidence, resulting in serious complications for patients, including amputation of labia minora.
Dr Fistonic also gives insightful information regarding consent form before the treatment, and the need to evaluate safety, efficacy and patient's expectations.

Available from 7 March to 14 March.
